For best results, please read all instructions before
beginning project. Refer to photo for color and design
placement.
| 1. |
Clean the greenware, wipe it down with a lightly
dampened sponge and place the piece onto a
turntable. |
| 2. |
Dilute food coloring with water to create an ink
consistency and sketch the design elements in place
with the No. 1 liner brush. If it's easier, you can
also transfer the pattern with clay carbon. |
| 3. |
Note: Thin all E-Z Stroke® colors with a
generous brush stroke of water as you use the color.
Thin EZ 026 Yellow Orange and use the No. 8 round
brush to paint casual highlight spots on the
peppers. Stroke over them lightly two or three times
to produce depth of color.
|
| 4. |
Paint the remainder of the chili peppers with EZ
057 Coral Red using the same brush. Tip: Use loose,
overlapping strokes. This will feel "sloppy" but
will be effective. Allow to dry. |
| 5. |
Add generous strokes of EZ 056 Brick Red in all
of the shadow areas of the peppers using the No. 8
round brush. Add a few more strokes to indicate
wrinkles. |
| 6. |
Paint the stem and calyx with EZ 028 Leaf Green
using the No. 8 round and No. 1 liner brushes as
needed. Add a few depth strokes of EZ 033 Ivy Green
using the No. 1 liner brush. |
| 7. |
Thin EZ 012 Cobalt Jet Black to ink consistency
with water. Use the No. 1 liner brush to create a
fractured style outline for definition around the
peppers and stems. Add a few "wrinkle lines" within
the pepper for definition. This gives the appearance
that the pepper has begun to shrivel as it dries.
|
| 8. |
Use a No. 8 round brush to paint casual strokes
of EZ 017 Dark Turquoise into the square shape
behind the peppers. Note: Do not let this background
color touch the peppers. Leave an irregular white
space between the peppers and the Dark Turquoise. |
| 9. |
Frame the square shape with a narrow border of
EZ 012 Cobalt Jet Black using the No. 8 round brush.
|
| 10. |
Use the 1” inch foam brush saturated with water
and EZ 023 Midnight Blue to paint the remainder of
the piece. Tip: Make strokes parallel to the square
shape in the center and overlap the corners. This
will have a streaked, continental ceramic look when
it fires. It's quick and really fun. |
| 11. |
Carve "silly hearts" that have curly tails and
small leaves, using the pattern as a guide, the word
HOT, and some scrolls in the Midnight Blue border,
using the Sgraffito-Duster tool. (Note: The
Sgraffito-Duster tool has a small, soft brush on one
end to gently brush away carving residue. If you
have an urge to "blow" the chips off - don't! You
may add moisture to the rubble and create clay that
will stick on and lift the color.) |
| 12. |
Carve three small lines into the corners of the
Cobalt Jet Black border using the Sgraffito-Duster
tool. |
| 13. |
Use the 1” inch foam brush and saturate it in
water and EZ 012 Cobalt Jet Black. Gently press it
to the edge of plate and slowly rotate the
turntable. Reload the color and repeat this process
three times for full, intense color. |
| 14. |
Place the plate flat on a kiln shelf and fire to
shelf cone 04. |
| 15. |
Dip the plate in CN 2000D Clear Dipping Glaze,
drain and allow to dry. |
| 16. |
Stilt and fire the plate to shelf cone 06. |
